The e-module Trauma Informed Interactions has been prepared by Aberdeen City Council’s Educational Psychology Service. The knowledge and skills covered within the module sit within the "Trauma Informed" level of National Trauma Transformational Programme (NTTP). The content is therefore applicable to all working within the Scottish workforce.
This 20 minute e-module will help staff learn how they can de-escalate situations by promoting safety, understanding, and empathy. By recognising that past trauma can influence current behaviour, individuals can respond with compassion and avoid triggering further distress. This approach emphasises building trust, respecting personal space, actively listening, and validating emotions, ultimately creating a safer and more supportive environment for everyone involved.
Welcome to the Teenage Brain! Our understanding of teenage brain development has increased so much in recent years. Did you know, the teenage brain undergoes huge growth and change, almost as much as a toddlers does?
There is so much learning potential within this period of change for adolescents! It is great to consider how a focus on this potential could support with some of the challenges that can also occur through this time.
This course will be of interest to those working to support young people and who are keen to reflect on how increasing our understanding of brain development can impact on and enhance their work.
If you are completing this course as part of an education setting: once you've completed the digital training, you will be able to arrange your follow up coaching sessions on a topic pertinent to your setting with the Educational Psychology Service.
This training aims to support schools, educational settings and individual practitioners to develop their knowledge and skills in relation to Emotion Coaching. Emotion Coaching is an approach to supporting learners with their emotional regulation and uses moments of heightened behaviour to teach learners about more effective responses.
The digital training consists of three sections. Each section contains pre-recorded videos which include activities and opportunities for reflection.
It is recommended that you allow approximately 3.5 hour for this digital training. 45-60 minutes for section 1 and 2, and around 90 minutes for section 3. There is a short quiz to complete at the end..
Following completion of the digital training, you will receive a minimum of two follow-up coaching sessions, facilitated by the EPS, to help you to reflect on the training and consider the ongoing implementation of Emotion Coaching in your setting.
Please note that access to this course is by enrolment code. Schools and educational settings who are interested in accessing Emotion Coaching training should first contact their EPS locality team (EPSDon@aberdeencity.gov.uk; EPSWest@aberdeencity.gov.uk; or EPSDee@aberdeencity.gov.uk) to request a Systemic EIC to discuss the implementation within your establishment.
