Across Scottish councils, officers and members are becoming more and more entrepreneurial and commercial in their outlook for to meet future funding challenges.

    The Commercial Awareness workshop will support participants in becoming more commercially aware and entrepreneurial when looking for opportunities for innovative ways of delivering services to meet local needs through delivering value for money, sustaining communities, and providing choice.

    By attending this workshop, you will gain the skills and working knowledge of commercial thinking to consider everything we do as a council in a more business-like way.  This ranges from trading services as a commercial activity to taking a more business-like approach to budget planning.

    This training workshop focuses on the following areas:  

    • The role of trading and entrepreneurship in a public service environment; 
    • The fundamental principles of marketing; 
    • The approach to trading public services in order to generate income; 
    • The process of developing an effective business case; 
    • Financial planning for public sector commercial activities

    This training is available for any service manager to attend.
